Personal Life
I am a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Since completing high school there in 1971, I have relocated multiple times to pursue clinical work, training, and studies: to Central Pennsylvania (University Park, Williamsport), to Indiana (Terre Haute), and then to Maryland (Baltimore). Since the early 1980's I have worked and resided in Central Florida (Melbourne, Orlando, Longwood).
I am a self-avowed family man, happily married for now more than 40 years to an exceptional woman, a multiply decorated Special Education teacher (now retired), who continues working as an educational tutor helping children (and their families) dealing with developmental exceptionalities and challenging learning difficulties.
My wife and I are very proud parents of two talented and professionally accomplished daughters, both University of Florida graduates. Our oldest daughter, after completing a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree, now works in a senior clinical management position at a Central Florida medical rehabilitation facility. Our younger daughter, after completing both Fine Arts & Business degrees, is now employed as a Human Resource Manager with a large corporation in Tampa.
Additionally, I am the also the boundlessly happy grandfather of two wonderful grandchildren - Adam Joshua and Ian Paul.
My free time is spent primarily with wife and family,in the garden (raising succulents, cactus, lilies, and bromeliads), and in cultivating my spiritual life through varied Jewish studies, prayer, and different forms of meditation.
Professional History
My resume is available for review below the following narrative paragraphs.
Professionally, I completed undergraduate studies at Penn State University majoring in Psychology and Religion. Prior to and after earning a Bachelor's degree there, I worked at several mental health facilities assisting long term psychiatrically hospitalized patients to re-integrate into the community at large. At the end of the 1970's, I returned to full-time to college, completing graduate studies (Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology) at Indiana State University. For the next 2 years I worked as an outpatient psychotherapist in a Central Pennsylvania Mental Health Center.
Pursuing additional studies and training, I left Pennsylvania again, continuing graduate work in a highly specialized doctoral practitioner program at the Florida Institute of Technology School of Professional Psychology in Melbourne. My doctoral dissertation research explored how individuals cope with acute and chronic pain syndromes. I then completed a year long clinical internship-residency in Baltimore, Maryland culminating with my graduation from F.I.T. School of Psychology in 1985 - earning a Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) degree.
Opting to continue work in Florida at an outpatient multidisciplinary pain clinic, I was fully Licensed Psychologist in Florida in May 1985. I continued working in professional staff and then clinical management positions at 2 outpatient multidisciplinary pain clinics, while also establishing my independent psychology practice in Orlando in 1991. In subsequent years I have done additional consulting work with various medical rehabilitation facilities and pain management physicians in Central Florida.
Across my career as a Psychologist my clinical work has often focused on working with individuals dealing with pain-disease syndromes, but has always included working with patients suffering from all types of emotional distress (low self-esteem, anxiety problems, depression issues, grief and trauma, etc,).
My full time private independent practice was initially located in downtown Orlando through 2006, then relocating to Altamonte Springs to join multiple colleagues at Northside Psychological Services through 2017. In 2018, I relocated my independent practice to Longwood, Florida where I continue to see patients dealing with medical-pain issues, problems with low esteem, anxiety and depression concerns, distress associated with grieving and trauma, with young and middle-aged adults dealing with major life transitions, as well as many older adults dealing with the challenges of aging.
